Workshops
Check out my new range of craft courses & parties by clicking on the 'BLOG' button at the top right hand side!!
I love teaching. I get so much enjoyment out of teaching new skills to individuals and inspiring and helping them to develop their creative ideas. I have met some lovely children, teenagers and adults since running my workshops, some of whom have really inspired me with their work and have made it such a joy to work with!
Schools
I have been so lucky over the years to have had the chance to work on the exciting range of projects I have done at schools across Edinburgh and Fife. I love children, their sense of imagination is so inspiring. I can run one day workshops, artist in residences or a weekly after school club. I have taught a diverse range of subjects to both pupils and teachers.
Please click my experience link at the bottom of the page for projects and subjects I have previously taught.
Shops and stores
I have worked for Coats Crafts (Rowan Yarns) as a tutor for over 5 years running a successful range of hand craft workshops at various department stores across the UK including John Lewis Oxford Street in London, House of Fraser in Birmingham, Jenners in Edinburgh as well as a variety of independent haberdasheries. In 2006, sponsored by Coats Crafts, I packed my suitcase full of wool, needles and crochet hooks and went off around Britain to teach hand crafts to as many people as I could in aid of the make-a-wish foundation. I managed to raise a substantial amount of money for my chosen charity and met so many lovely people and craft enthusiasts!
I can run a full day or weekend workshop, give a solo talk and presentation of my work, do a book signing or just simply demonstrate a technique or project idea to customers. What I can teach: Knitting (basic to advanced techniques); Crochet (basic to advanced techniques); Pattern writing; Felt making (needle and wet) and Embroidery techniques.
Further education
I am available to run workshops as part of a textile degree or foundation art design course.
What I can teach: Constructed textiles - designing fabric samples using traditional hand craft techniques such as felting, knitting, crochet and embroidery to contemporary techniques such as machine embellishment, heat transfer and digital print; Working to a design brief (from research stage of a project to working in a sketch pad, surface decoration, creating a client board, putting a design into context using Photoshop and producing final outcomes).
